BITs - Bilateral Investment Treaties

BITs have the task to encourage and facilitate investment between two countries, traditionally often between a developed country and a developing country with a yet underdeveloped and thus higher-risk investment environment. In general, BITs go both ways, though, and aim at creating a favourable climate for foreign investment by companies from one contract country in the other.
